came lights matt picked
Matt came in and picked us up. He was lights out tonight.
against bat figured justin later putting side sooner swinging team
I just figured sooner or later something would happen. It's just that you have to keep putting up zeros on the other side against a team that is swinging the bat pretty well. Justin was able to do that.
ahead hitter key puts strike third
His key is getting strike one. If he's able to get ahead of a hitter, it really puts the hitter on the defensive. When he doesn't get ahead, sometimes he has to come in with his fastball, which frankly, is his third pitch.
credit diego felt good offensive san
I have to give credit to San Diego State. I felt they were a good offensive club.
best jones steven taken
I probably should have taken Steven out with Jones up there, but you try to get one more out with your best pitcher. That was my mistake.
calling checked field game heavy hours needed radar rain seen sunlight
I never like calling a game before the scheduled game time, but this was about as heavy a rain as I've seen here. We checked with the weatherman and Doppler radar and we would have needed 3 or 4 hours of sunlight for the field to be ready.
aggressive approach early team
In the first inning, you could see their approach was to go with the pitch. But when they were doing their damage, they were the same team they've always been, which is very aggressive early in the count.
cuts harder laid played relatively
For the most part, it (the surface) has played relatively fair, but it is getting harder and more frayed and with the cuts in the seams getting laid open, it is getting dangerous.
bad draft good himself matt players pressure
Good players like Matt don't have two bad years in a row. He really put too much pressure on himself in his draft year.
bad outside worry
I feel bad for (Landon) because he doesn't get the at-bats that he would've gotten. Outside of that, I don't worry about Harrington or any of our pitching.
catch control cruise early five fortunate good guys happy lead left louisiana mediocre playing results runs since tech western
I'm not particularly happy with the way we're playing. We had five runs on 11 hits, but we left 12 on base. We have been in cruise control since Western Illinois. We are fortunate to be 6-2 over that stretch. I told our guys we're playing very mediocre baseball. It's going to catch up to us. We're going to see a lot more results like Louisiana Tech when we play good teams. We get a lead early then go into cruise control. We didn't get to 19-8 by going through the motions.
ball close easily field game gone left line shows thin tie
In a close game like this, that ball could have easily gone into left field and we have a tie game. That shows you what a thin line we were on.
couple curve hard hits innings left pitch throwing time
In most of his innings, he had a hard time getting his curve over for strikes. There were couple innings when his changeup left him as well. You'll give up some hits if you're throwing only one pitch for strikes. But the one thing you'll get from him is a battle.
closes game gets hit lead pitches puts steven work
The first game was interesting. We had a four-run lead and squandered it, but Daly puts up zeros, Derek gets the big hit and Steven (Wright) closes it. Steven had to get his work in and 25 pitches was just right.
