Some people probably were looking for a little more upside on the quarter, and the fact that they're guiding for a potential downturn in the chipset business I think has some people a little bit concerned.

The biggest positive was handset margins, which came in at 4 percent, up from 1.5 percent last quarter and our 3 percent forecast. Given fairly weak orders -- down 1 percent from last year -- and our own supply-chain checks, we suspect Motorola will reduce its 2000 unit shipment plan.

It's clearly that now is the time (to regroup) given that things are so bad. Now is the time to go about reorganizing in a way Galvin thinks is best.

I don't think this is a slam dunk, but I think the expectations had gotten a little out of control. Sports scores and emails are a great way to start, but don't expect this thing to be the end-all. Expect it to evolve. Realize that we are in the first inning of a nine-inning game.
