We thank Carlos Delgado for his contributions and wish him well. He did a great job for the Marlins in 2005.
game gray great knows people stand student
He's a great student of the game. He knows how to play the game right. And he's stand-up. There is no gray area. That's appreciated. People will always know where they stand with Joe.
adjust competition concern great handle league leagues main major opportunity pitching ready speed talented
Defensively, he's ready to play in the big leagues. We don't have a concern about him defensively. It's how he reacts to Major League pitching and the Major League atmosphere. Reggie Abercrombie, as well, is a very talented young player. He has speed and can do things. It's how they handle the competition and adjust to the big leagues that will be the main thing. This is a great opportunity for some of these guys.
changes direction joe payroll wait
There are going to be changes to this team, ... We'll wait for that payroll direction from Jeffrey. Joe will have input.
amount hours move offer passed reasonable time
We thought that the 72 hours that passed was more than reasonable amount of time for him to offer some explanation for his unexcused absence. We still do not have that explanation, and we'll move on.
best interest team
We thought it was in the best interest of the team and AJ for him to leave,
challenged early exactly hired initially looking players taught tone turnaround winning work
When we initially hired him, we were looking for a turnaround, and we called him a turnaround specialist, ... That's exactly what he did. For me, he really taught the organization what it was to win, and to work hard. It was all about winning early on, every game. He set the tone in the clubhouse, then the working hard. He was out here before the players often, and working hard. Then he challenged a lot of the young players here who had not been challenged to work harder.
importance joe pitching speed stood style
What stood out with Joe was the importance of pitching and defense. I think our philosophies are similar. The style will be Joe's. But the philosophies, pitching, speed and defense, will remain.

activity spring
There is always activity in Spring Training. Is there something we may do in the outfield? That's a possibility. I've never really done this before, this much of a redo. This is something new to me as well as the staff.
later losses talented ultimately wins
I'd like to think that we're talented but inexperienced. We'll see how that ultimately translates into wins and losses later in the season.
anticipate dallas head obviously remain
Obviously we have been very active. I would anticipate as we head to Dallas we're going to remain active.
anticipate dallas follow head plan remain
Obviously, we've been very active. I would anticipate as we head to Dallas we're going to remain active. We still do have a plan of action, and we're going to follow through on it.
bit chris edge extra job last leagues nice played
Chris may have a little bit of an edge because he's played some in the big leagues and had some at-bats, and did a nice job for us as an extra outfielder last year.
