I came here to show support for all the millions of people in the world who stand to benefit if the Millennium Development Goals are reached, especially the children who will be saved from malaria or Aids, who will grow up healthy, go to school and have the chance to earn their living and enjoy life.
And I'm not sure that the US is going to insist on that. I think they've made their point, but I'm not sure the other member states would want to see the millennium development goals dropped or, the worse, expunged from the document.
It is not in the United Nations that the Millennium Development Goals will be achieved. They have to be achieved in each of its Member States, by the joint efforts of their governments and people.

The scale of this tragedy almost defies our darkest imagination,
The scale of this achievement seems to have been missed by some, ... So let's make sure we live up to our promises to the world's poor.
I very much welcome this. I think it is a good resolution in itself -- no less important is the fact that it has been adopted unanimously,
