begun easter expect holiday market move people strongly surprise today tomorrow
Today was -- and I expect tomorrow to be -- quiet. I think many people have already begun the Easter holiday and it would take a big surprise in something tomorrow for the market to move very strongly one way or the other.
again bad believe buy coming concerned conflict economy expected hard landing low news people sector seeing slowing tech today values within
I expected today was going to be pretty choppy, ... We were again seeing a real conflict within the tech sector between people who believe values are low enough to buy and people still concerned about (possible) announcements of slowing growth, that the economy was coming in for a hard landing and nothing but bad news would be coming out.
basically company earnings expected gotten looking market moved reported seeing stocks
Basically what we're seeing is stocks that reported expected or better than expected first-quarter earnings have moved up, while any company that has really disappointed has gotten slammed. The market is looking for direction.
expect high higher likely lower moved production raise stay surprise time
I don't expect them to stay that high for long but it wouldn't surprise me if they moved higher before they drop, just because we do have lower inventories and it's not likely OPEC's going to raise production any time soon,
everybody expects high leads negative question since strong surprises
Since everybody expects very strong earnings, that then leads to the question of will there be negative surprises just because of how high the expectations are.
beginning consumer consumers economy everybody expected fact people slow sounds sustain tenth whether worried worry
It sounds like it's pretty much what we'd expected at this point. But everybody is still worried about how long the consumer can sustain the economy. So the fact they are only up a tenth of a percent, people are beginning to worry whether the consumers are really going to slow down, and the economy with it.
canada expected good inflation led today
It's a good day led by Nortel; surprise, surprise. I had expected that (Canada) would be down today because of the inflation report.
everybody expecting greenspan increase indication market nervous next talks tomorrow
I think the market is a little nervous because Greenspan talks tomorrow and everybody is expecting him to give an indication of how much of an increase we'll see next week.
basic canadian change environment expect good overall record records strong view year
I would not read too much into the record at this point, ... The Canadian market's been doing very, very well this year. It's doing well for all the right reasons: strong earnings, basic good environment for equities. I expect we'll see more records this year but today's doesn't change the overall view much.
broader clear concern expect financial focus happening interest mixed rather services surprising turn
I think it may just be broader concern rather than a focus on what's happening to interest rates. Many of these sectors haven't done well and it's not clear what will turn them around, ... It's a little surprising the financial services are down. Although, they would be mixed on (Greenspan's) message, I would expect them to be a little more a positive.
assets expected faster job market tells
I hadn't expected BP Amoco to be really in the market for acquisitions this quickly, ... What it tells me is that they have done a faster job of consolidation of Amoco's assets and they feel very comfortable going forward.
good news saw start
We saw really good news to start the day.
assess economy fact good market news reacting sector technology trying
It was a little choppy. It's the market trying to assess the good news we're getting out of the technology sector and, at the same time, reacting to the fact the economy is slowing.
almost good last people percent taken year
They are also up almost 40 percent year to date. So people may have taken this as the last of the good news.
