innings last next pitches point spring threw
Last year, I threw so much in spring training, at this point I had 12 or 13 innings under my belt. It was ridiculous. I'm excited. I threw 60 pitches already, how many more do I have to have? Seventy-five or 80 in my next start, and from there I can go to 100, really.
baseball beginning cake eat explain fun golf jokes next regular six spring training
Spring Training is just a fun time. I really don't know how to explain it. Everyone's got new jokes and everyone is having fun with each other. You get to have your cake and eat it, too. You get to have a life. During the regular season, you don't because it's all day long -- baseball is at the end of the day. But here it's at the beginning of the day and then, with me, I'm going to go out and play golf every day for the next six weeks.
strong spring seven-months
What you do during the offseason is, first, build a base. That takes about three weeks, and then you try to get as strong as you can before you go to spring training. Once you get there, you taper down and it's just a maintenance program for the next six or seven months.
easily either game guys happy however tie
Either one of those guys can easily tie the game or put them ahead. You're happy with however you get them out.
against bad believed execute guy luck needed pitches pitching six
I've always believed you make your own luck. I wouldn't say I had bad luck today. I just didn't execute pitches when I needed to. Pitching against a guy (Zambrano) like that, you can't give up six runs.
coming opening
Coming from Florida, opening day is sometimes the only day you have like that.
correct deal definitely hard home learn whatever
There's got to be some kind of deal you learn from this. I'm definitely going to go home and think hard about it and try to correct whatever it was.
excuse
There's no excuse for tonight. It was brutal, brutal, brutal.
baseman hitting home
That was bull, hitting our first baseman after he hit a home run.
apart coming good guys hope start swallow team tear tough
That's the way we feel. We'll see how things play out. I hope they don't tear this team apart and we have to start all over. I know we have some good young guys coming up, but it would be tough for a lot of us to swallow if we have to start over.
That's what he should do, right? ... He's a home-run hitter.
days felt focused found great
You know, I felt intense, I felt focused today. Days when you have great stuff, you probably shouldn't give up any runs, and I still found a way to give up two.
execute exterior prepared rocket science takes trying
I think I've always been prepared for this. I know what I have to do. You can't make rocket science out of it. You just have to execute pitches. Don't let exterior distractions in. It just takes away from what you're trying to do.
scores starters whoever
Right now it's going to come down to whoever scores more runs, because the starters aren't going to be out there as long,
