ice-cream air weight-watchers
You know what ambrosia tastes like? It tastes like all the things you can't eat on Weight Watchers. Cheeseburgers, sugar cookies, regular frickin' ice cream, instead of, like, ice cream that's made out of air ... and human hope.
mean boys thinking
There are at least two distinct meanings of 'hot': there is the, like, normal human definition which is that 'this individual seems suitable for mating'. And then there's the weird, culturally constructed definition of 'hot' which means, 'that individual is malnourished and has probably had plastic bags inserted into her breasts'. Like, I think if you went back to the 18th century and asked a 15-year-old boy, 'Would you like to marry a woman who has had plastic bags needlessly inserted into her breasts?' that 15-year-old boy would probably be like ... 'What's plastic?'
stories world misguided
I wanted to, you know, get my story out in the world, which, it turns out, is a very misguided notion.
roles complexity humans
Our role as humans is to recognize the complexity of others.
believe america
Nerdighters make me believe in America again.
emo allan-poe checkmate
If I'm too old to be Emo, how do you account for the very Emo and very old Edgar Allan Poe? Checkmate!
opportunity long literature
I'm a big believer in pairing classics with contemporary literature, so students have the opportunity to see that literature is not a cold, dead thing that happened once but instead a vibrant mode of storytelling that's been with us a long time - and will be with us, I hope, for a long time to come.
lying grief long
Grief does not change you. It reveals you. And herein lies the gift that cannot die. It changes the course of your life forever. If you allow yourself the chance to feel it for as long as you need to - even if it is for the rest of your life - you will be guided by it. You will become someone it would have been impossible for you to be, and in this way your loved one lives on, in you
block coal-miners coal
Coal miners don't get coal miners' block.
mom mother lying
Right, except I'm not going to lie to my mom, because what kind of (man) lies to his own mother?
school people realizing
High School made me realize that the people who say they will never change, are always the ones who change the most.
destiny retrospect happens
Destiny is not something that happens all at once-it's something that happens only in retrospect.
stories world want
As a reader, I don't feel a story has an obligation to make me happy. I want stories to show me a bigger world than the one I know.
