We did a lot of talking, and all of this stuff is behind us,
He just didn't have the feel for pitching that he normally has. I think the red flag was up when he starts walking people and getting behind in a lot of counts.
We're hoping he's healthy. That's No.1, first and foremost. All the reports that we've had is that he's been on a regular routine throwing ? not throwing off the mound, but everything seems to be good. He's a big horse for us. When he was a free agent last year he was at the top of my list. We were fortunate enough to be able to sign him. He just never was right. Mel can tell you, from spring training on he just didn't feel right. It was just something that nagged him all year. Finally we shut him down. Hopefully that stuff is behind him.
It was uncomfortable sitting in on that press conference. It must have been 10 times more uncomfortable for him. With that all behind him, I think he's going to enjoy spring training.
The only thing you hope doesn't happen is that we start and then stop. That would be a hardship we'd have to deal with.
The playoffs have been going on for us for awhile.
I don't remember being this disappointed because I wanted this very badly.
We understand that there will be certain games when one run will be huge. Even though we're capable of big things here, we have to diversify our attack a little bit.
This team has been pretty good about not carrying any baggage with it.
We just felt that Jason probably needed the most rest of all the guys.
We just feel that Embree may have a little more velocity.
You just accept whatever comes down, because if you start getting lost there, you're going to wind up getting distracted and using it as an excuse, and this is no time for excuses.
to hear that they want me to do what I do.
With how hard he works, how many pitches he throws, what we see, we'll decide if Thursday is an option or not. He's anxious to get in a game.
