came fears guys hard impress trying
One of my fears was that with young guys trying so hard to impress us that they are not going to say if they feel something. My fears kind of came out.
credit high impressed leagues minor people players quality raising succeed talent
I was impressed by how the young talent was able to succeed at such a high level, ... That's a credit to the organization. First of all, the players who they're drafting, and then the quality of the people in the Minor Leagues who are raising these players up. And then, the manager, Jack, getting the most out of them.
behind fresh guys impress looking mood past trying youthful
The mood has been fresh every day. They've been able to put the past day behind them. Our guys are so youthful and energetic. The one thing we've been trying to impress on them is that nobody's looking over their shoulder. We don't want them to feel like every at-bat could be their last.
along continues depth few good impress looked spring starter
He's been a starter most of his career, but in Chicago, because of the depth in their rotation, he pitched out of the bullpen. He has looked very good in Spring Training. He is in the mix, along with a few other guys, but he continues to impress us.
easy gotten impress innings time
He's done nothing but impress us. Every time out, he's gotten nothing but outs. He's down in the zone. His innings have been as easy as anyone's here.
ask impressed love player proud
I love the way he's worked. I've been very impressed and proud of the way he's playing. He's communicating with other players. He's done everything you can ask a player to do.
kept
Too many 2-0 counts. But he kept us in the game.
innings season setting start
We just need to get a lot of innings in for a lot of people. We'll start setting up for the season after this round.
difficult game hit runners ugly win
It was an ugly game for us. We didn't pitch, we didn't play defense, we didn't hit with runners on. It's difficult to win a game like that.
beat home run second solo third
The solo (homer) doesn't kill you in the second inning. It's the home run in the third that really hurts. Howard beat him today.
bottom picked pile protect ran series sixth thinking trying won
I started thinking about it in the sixth inning. At the end of the game, I ran out and picked him up. I was trying to protect him. I had been on the bottom of the pile when we won the World Series in 1996, and it wasn't much fun.
game keeps
Is it unfair? In a sense, yes. But I think we all know why we're doing it that way, and that's part of what makes this game tick. It's what keeps salaries up.
forecast forecasts matters mean nature press rain reading
I've been reading press clippings about what I can do and what I couldn't do for a long time. That's just the nature of the business. ... Forecasts are forecasts. It's forecast to rain today, probably, but that doesn't mean it's going to. What matters is what we think about ourselves.
advantage best hard manager somebody work
It would be hard to say you have an advantage over anyone. The idea of a manager is to get the most out of your players, and everyone does it differently. I'm just doing it the best way I know how. That doesn't give me an advantage over somebody else. This is just my method. It may not work for other guys.
