ability abundance eight push teams
We have an abundance of young starters. Other teams would probably like to have eight veterans, but we have eight young starters. They have the ability to push each other.
ability clubs create driven expose hold runners runs sit wait weaknesses
create runs when we need to. We will look to expose weaknesses of other clubs. There are a lot of clubs that don't have the ability to hold runners on. I'm not going to sit back and wait for runs to be driven in. If we can create runs, we're going to do it.
ability drive
He showed he has the ability to drive in runs. We need that all up and down the lineup.
ability bit change faith knows needs pitches speeds
He knows how to pitch. He has the ability to change speeds with all his pitches and locate. He just needs a little more seasoning. Obviously, he was part of a big trade, and the organization has a lot of faith in him. He's a young man, and we just feel he needs a little bit more experience.
ability bases believe chance fun good plays runs special
He has the ability to take something you give him and use it that day. He can run. He can hit. He has power. He runs the bases well, plays good defense. He's fun to watch. Nothing he really does makes you say, 'I can't believe he made that play, or got that hit.' If you're around him long enough, you're not surprised. He has a chance to be a really special player.
kept
Too many 2-0 counts. But he kept us in the game.
innings season setting start
We just need to get a lot of innings in for a lot of people. We'll start setting up for the season after this round.
difficult game hit runners ugly win
It was an ugly game for us. We didn't pitch, we didn't play defense, we didn't hit with runners on. It's difficult to win a game like that.
beat home run second solo third
The solo (homer) doesn't kill you in the second inning. It's the home run in the third that really hurts. Howard beat him today.
bottom picked pile protect ran series sixth thinking trying won
I started thinking about it in the sixth inning. At the end of the game, I ran out and picked him up. I was trying to protect him. I had been on the bottom of the pile when we won the World Series in 1996, and it wasn't much fun.
game keeps
Is it unfair? In a sense, yes. But I think we all know why we're doing it that way, and that's part of what makes this game tick. It's what keeps salaries up.
forecast forecasts matters mean nature press rain reading
I've been reading press clippings about what I can do and what I couldn't do for a long time. That's just the nature of the business. ... Forecasts are forecasts. It's forecast to rain today, probably, but that doesn't mean it's going to. What matters is what we think about ourselves.
advantage best hard manager somebody work
It would be hard to say you have an advantage over anyone. The idea of a manager is to get the most out of your players, and everyone does it differently. I'm just doing it the best way I know how. That doesn't give me an advantage over somebody else. This is just my method. It may not work for other guys.
coaches great last league major month opportunity spring timing tournament wish
It would have been a great opportunity. I just wish the timing was different. I don't think major league coaches can be part of this tournament because it could last the whole month of March, when we're in spring training.
