choice early family happy hard hope issues player retire takes uniform
You don't want to see any player ever retire too early or have family issues that takes him away from the game. It's hard to retire. I hope if that's the choice that he made that he's happy with his decision. It's hard to take your uniform off.
beneficial decision hurt maybe pitch starters
You don't want to really hurt someone's development. We'll have to make that decision if we think it's beneficial for maybe one of the young starters to pitch out of the bullpen.
You don't want to get too many (doubleheaders). We already got two. We don't want to back them up.
camps thoughts
You don't see camps like this. You have thoughts on who's going to be where, but there are no guarantees. Everything comes down to one big competition.
ask both few gave good guys opportunity pitching win
There was some really good pitching from both sides. I think there were a few jitters from our side, but for the most part, our guys gave us an opportunity to win that game. I think every day, that's all you can ask for.
best counts kept knows talked team
There were too many 2-0 counts for him today. He knows that. But he kept us in the game. We talked about that during the season. Sometimes you're not going to have your best stuff, but you have to keep your team in the game. He kept us in the game.
costs mistake rolling seems supposed
This isn't supposed to happen. You're up 5-1 and we're rolling along. It's frustrating. It seems like any mistake we make costs us.
doubt good miss provide
The WBC will provide a lot of excitement, so it's a good thing, but I'm going to miss my players, no doubt about it.
deception downhill exactly good might people plane swings
People don't see the ball, they don't have good swings on him. I can't really tell you exactly why, but there's some deception to him. Some of it might be his height, some of it might be the downhill plane all the time, but there's deception to him and I really like it.
complete great hard heard robert sending
Everything we heard about him, he's a complete player. There wasn't really anything he couldn't do. He's done a lot of great things in camp. But so did Robert. Robert did a lot of great things. It was really hard sending Robert down today.
chance three
There's no chance he'll go more than three innings.
bottom picked pile protect ran series sixth thinking trying won
I started thinking about it in the sixth inning. At the end of the game, I ran out and picked him up. I was trying to protect him. I had been on the bottom of the pile when we won the World Series in 1996, and it wasn't much fun.
game keeps
Is it unfair? In a sense, yes. But I think we all know why we're doing it that way, and that's part of what makes this game tick. It's what keeps salaries up.
easier family found hotel less members playing road
I've always thought it was easier playing on the road, because there are less distractions. It's you and your teammates. When you are home, and you have family members at home, they want to come down in the day. They need hotel rooms. There is just a lot less distractions. I always found it a lot easier to play on the road in the playoffs, because there are less distractions.
