We were obviously concerned after the game, but he has very little swelling, and our guys feel encouraged.
You hate to see him go through something like this, ... and we have to go through it, so it's a tough deal. But I think we've just got to deal with it. His injury this time, they said if last year was a 10, this year is a 2. It's not nearly as bad.
Whatever your business is, we all have a drama going on in our own lives. We're all unhappy about something. You have sickness, marital problems, a myriad of things going wrong in everybody's life. You have to deal with those things right away. You have to get their full concentration on football. I'd like to be able to communicate even more with my players when things aren't going bad, but it's just like everything else in life. The problems take over, and you wind up chasing the problems. I'd say handling people is the most important thing you do as a coach. Dealing with people, really, is all football is.
What David is, is a very, very good route runner, ... He's showed that he's got patience. He's got really good hints, which normally means you're a real good route runner, when you can go in there and just have a natural way of selling something. All it is is a little hint, but you see the defender take a big bite off of it. He's got real good instincts that way, and he's been around a long time and is just one of the hardest-working, high-quality guys you want to be around.
Through this entire process we always wanted what was best for Patrick, and in working with him we feel this is where he wants to be. We wish him the best with the Jets.
We always want to get him in the game plan. We always want to get him the ball. Last week against Dallas, he only had three catches, but they were all big. He was one of the keys to us offensively and we try to work hard to get him the ball.
With our free agents, we think we have the best place for them.
We've had some big battles that I've been a part of in the first go-around,
We'll kind of study the film, ... but I think he's got a lot of poise in there. I think he carries himself well. I think he's an accurate passer, but we're still getting to know him.
We'll have to see how it develops in the days ahead. Mark tried to come back off of it, but couldn't.
To Mark's benefit, ... I think he's been really consistent with his play since we started back this year. I think he's been confident and sure.
