audience band experience judging music people sitting worried
But the experience was so great. That's what the music is about, the band and the audience elevating each other. I worried that it would be people sitting back and judging me. But it wasn't like that at all.
bands blues chris clubs feeling holmes living music nobody opposite playing record rock roots scene sides street thinking took traveler type
I stumbled on this little scene. And little by little, that scene took over my life, ... You could make a living being a blues musician. There were a lot of clubs where you could play this type of music every night. And a lot of roots rock clubs, and bands like the Holmes Brothers, Chris Whitley and Blues Traveler playing opposite sides of the street corner. And a lot of camaraderie. Nobody was thinking of record deals, so there wasn't any feeling of competition.

It was like Grateful Dead bootcamp, jumping in like that,
alison course create deeper expectation field krauss stays within
It's funny. If I had plotted a course for my career, I would have done something more akin to what Alison Krauss does, ... She stays within the same field of bluegrass, and getting deeper and deeper into that well. And you create this expectation on the part of the audience.
dogs few good guy hot lunch outside stood telling
One guy stood outside telling us the hot dogs were no good and to give him all our lunch tickets. The hot dogs were excellent. He just wanted a few more.
obvious
If something's real successful, that's the obvious thing, to try it again,
spiritual different divine
There's so many different ways humans have used music to express the spiritual part of our nature and to connect us with the divine. So for me the pathway is through music.
powerful reality people
The interests behind fracking are very powerful and they've managed to control the dialogue for a while, because they have forced people to sign disclosure agreements; people who have had negative experiences who are not able to speak out because they've signed disclosure agreements with the gas companies. Things like this. They've managed to strangle the opposing viewpoint, but it does seem like the people who are against fracking have started to gain some traction and the realities of what an environmental nightmare it is are starting to become known.
spiritual powerful people
If you listen to soul music, or R&B music, or Blues music, a lot of that came from church music and spiritual music, and music has always been a really really powerful tool that people have used to get them closer to God - whatever they define God as. And for me that's always been part of what drew me to it and keeps me coming back for more.
infinite divine
I do feel a connection to the divine and to the infinite.
philosophy buddhism perspective
Through music I've discovered other philosophies. Buddhism in particular is one that has always - whenever I've studied it and read about it, it's just been so true to me. And I do try to take some practices of that into my daily life. Whether that's meditating or trying to see the world from that perspective.
beautiful beautiful-things
You are connected to something very much larger than yourself. And that's a beautiful thing.
gratitude grateful tired
I try to stay in gratitude as much as I can. You know, we all get to the point where we're frazzled, or tired, or frustrated, or whatever it is, but I try to take those moments and realize that I do have so much to be grateful for, and allow it to send me back to those feelings of gratitude and just live in gratitude as much as I can.
giving moments like-you
I have to say what I do is not easy and there are definitely moments where I feel inadequate to the tasks I've set for myself. And that's hard to feel - like you're giving your life to something and you can't really do it as well as you want to do it.
