both case club contract ended equitable fair full history hope incentives mind needed paying payroll plays protection sides
Both sides ended up with a fair and equitable deal. His contract has incentives only because of his history of being injured. The club needed some payroll protection in case he is not able to play a full season. We hope that he does. We don't mind paying if he plays a full year.
ask baseball change few last player pride sensitive several simple votes
It's not that simple to ask Soriano to change positions. This is a player that has been an All-Star for several years. He has had as many All-Star votes as any player in baseball the last few years. He has pride and he is a sensitive guy.
adversity ahead everybody positive situation unique
Everybody has challenges, everybody has obstacles, everybody has adversity, ... What's unique about this situation is that there are so many positive things ahead of this franchise.
arm five four matter move plays sure throws warm weather
It just a matter of making sure that his arm is OK. If he plays four or five days, having no pain, can play back to back and making the throws hard, we will move him to New Orleans, so long as the weather is warm enough.
build continue panic players
It's April. You don't panic in April. By the same token, we continue to look for good, young players you can build with long-term.
change compassion difficult people winter
It's been a very difficult winter for him. And I think people need to have compassion for that. I know people say, 'Why don't you just change positions?' Well, it's not that simple.

club five last looked looks seen starting team tough
It's a tough club to really analyze. The last five games, I'd say, I think we've seen a team that looks pretty good. Before that, we looked like a team that looked really bad. I don't think any of us know really what we have yet. I think we'll have a better idea starting Monday.
decision next point pushing seven
It's at the point that we will probably make a decision in the next seven days. We're not pushing him but we need to see where he's at.
best earlier era gotten hoping second wish
It was disappointing. We had gotten him through waivers earlier this year, and we were hoping a 6 ERA would get him through a second time, but it didn't happen. So we wish him nothing but the best in Coors Field.
fire fires happens hopefully nightmare pennant putting race season springs
It's been the most 'un-fun,' and it's been one nightmare after another. It's like I'm working for the fire department, just putting out fires every day. But I've been through springs like that before, and the season starts, and then I'm in a pennant race all year. Hopefully that's what happens here.
brian counting hoping innings september threw thrown
It's a big setback. We were counting on 200 innings from Brian this year. We were hoping those three-hit shutouts he threw in September were going to be thrown in our ballpark.
answer decision enjoyed frank owner questions tony
When the new owner comes in and makes the decision on me, then I'll answer questions after that. At this point, it would be inappropriate. I can tell you this: I have really enjoyed working with Tony Tavares and Frank Robinson.
brian counting innings
We were counting on 200 innings from Brian this year.
