Whether it's instinctive or whether or not it was just the way the wind was blowing, it seems that they somehow feel safer here.

It is disturbing to see their remains, a sea of furry white puppies replaced by carcass after carcass all along the beach.
hit mother pushed seventh sixth wave
A wave would hit and the pup went under. The mother pushed it up with her nose, and then another wave would hit. After the sixth or seventh wave, the pup didn't come up.
dive hit mothers push sweep tide wave
The mothers just push them and push them with their nose, and they dive back under and push them back up, and they get back into the tide wash, and then a big wave will hit and just sweep them back out to sea.
