He's that reluctant hero, and he's a fairly classic version of it. He reminds me of characters I always liked, Mad Max, Dirty Harry, Han Solo, where there's more going on than what they're letting on.
The secret to modern life is finding the measure in time management. I have two kids, career and I travel, and I don't think my life is any different than most couples. The most valuable commodity now for many people is time and how to parcel that out.
I wanted to be a lawyer. Then a journalist. Actually, I graduated from university as a journalist.
We feel that there are so many kids who need adopting. We thought we'd do it after having a couple of our own, but we just changed our mind.
Coming to terms with our true natures and who we really are has always been a fascination to humans. I know it fascinates me.
We actually have a second draft coming in.
I was probably more scared of my high school exams than I was of the Oscars. At the time you think it's everything and if you don't do well, your life's over. Opportunities are gone. So the more you do it, the less the fear is present.
Meditation has changed my life
We met at a party 11 years ago when we were both on first dates with our now wives so we kind of bonded right from the get go.
He moves beautifully, he sings beautifully, and he's a good actor. But that's very rare, I think. And he didn't come from the movies; he came from theater and went into the movies.
My private life is actually pretty dull. I'm incredibly happily married. Mine is a one-story story, so I don't think I'm going to be hounded about my private life.
I think I was 5 and singing 'Camelot' on stage. It was always a good way to meet girls. I did musicals, plays. My school encouraged it. We'd do our own productions. It wasn't until I was about 23 that I thought, 'I could give this a shot. I might as well do it.'
It is fair to say I am obsessed with that series. I am like a junkie looking for series two.
If you get too heavy with the nods and winks, people get a sense that they're excluded from something. If they're in screenings and everyone's laughing, and they don't know what the hell it's about, somehow you feel excluded from the party, or like you're not in the inner circle. As a performer, that's the worst thing you can do to an audience. It's fun, but you have to be very careful with it.
