Herbert Jeffrey "Herbie" Hancockis an American pianist, keyboardist, bandleader, composer and actor. Starting his career with Donald Byrd, he shortly thereafter joined the Miles Davis Quintet where Hancock helped to redefine the role of a jazz rhythm section and was one of the primary architects of the post-bop sound. That's when I began to understand what a chord is. So I learned theory to find a shorter method to take things off a record.
The mixture of all kinds of things, all kinds of beings - it's just like what we have here in this country.
You never knew, when you came out of there, what you did, or whether it was good. It never sounded good to me. It always sounded interesting but you wondered, what were we doing?
And that was fascinating, because you could do something different every time.
Another thing that I noticed is a lot of people in the hip hop scene have a great respect for jazz and have incorporated by sampling some elements that come from jazz.
As far as actually writing scripts or stories... now scenarios, most people have ideas for scenarios that could be the basis for a film.
A couple of years ago, I came up with the idea for a film that I thought could be interesting, and I took it to a couple of people - nobody professional or anything - but I thought it was kind of cool.
So to answer your question more directly, I think it's very important, in order not to have a boring life, to continue to have a sense of exploration, and the courage to take risks, in order to utilize and expand your sense of creativity.
So the ideas is not to shut out jazz - but it is very inclusive, which is great - because jazz is also an inclusive music.
Nowadays people jog and listen to music. Work out and listen to music. They've got these headphones on all the time. It's just the normal scene.
Actually, African Americans I think are completely now all mixed.
