arabs brother elementary freak human indians iranians mexicans people stood
We stood out. Me and my brother JoJo were the only two Mexicans in our whole school, and so was my little brother, in elementary school. We would have people come up to us and say, 'What are you?' and we would say, 'Well, what are you? We're just human like you!' They would just freak out. They thought we were Indians or Arabs or Iranians or something.
far improved nashville took tried
When we were old enough, he took us out there, and we tried to do it, too, man. We improved musically, but as far as getting anywhere, I can't really say that Nashville was the place.
everybody knowing matches nobody school seen singles top upside watched
Being a freshman, her upside is tremendous. We watched the other singles matches today. With us being a brand-new school and nobody knowing her or our school, she wasn't able to get a seed. Having seen everybody else play, she would have been in the top three.
bill family hard light lives music paid phone shoes worked
We've worked really hard our whole lives to be where we're at today, ... It's not like something that we really wanted - we just wanted to be happy. Music was just survival. It was the way our family got through, and paid the phone bill and the light bill and got shoes for someone.

We used to be invited on stage with our father's band to sing that song when we were children,
bill bring eyes faces family light music pay played smiles tears
We always played as a family together. . . . Music was what we did to bring smiles to people's faces and tears to their eyes and pay the light bill and whatever.
across bar few grab homework kids morning playing school sleep street until
We were kids still in school and playing 24 hours. We would get off school and then go do our homework in the bar right across the street and then play there until one or two in the morning and then grab a few hours' sleep before we went to school. Then the same thing repeated, man, over and over.
meat onions peppers taste
We try to give a taste of all different flavors. Because when you have a burrito, you don't want just meat -- you want onions and peppers too!
beats black music white
Our music isn't black or white or brown. It comes from the heart, which beats red.
dad freaked gonna guy hyper knew meant minutes needed
Who knew that he was gonna be a drummer? We just freaked out. It's weird, and it's a blessing. ... He was the hyper guy of the family, and the baby, too. My dad said he needed ... something to use all that energy. The first 30 minutes he started playing, we knew it was meant to be.
course dad doors followed himself knew living meant missing music opened people seeing start though willie
He opened the doors for people to really start seeing us. People want to see what Willie's digging. I never really, like, followed him that much, though being from here, of course I knew of him. I knew what he meant to music and to my dad. Dad always called himself a missing outlaw, so that's what Willie represented. We're actually living dad's dream. It is pretty amazing.
children texas insult
Never spit in front of women and children, and never insult the great state of Texas.
father inspiration taught-us
Our father taught us how to play. He's also our biggest inspiration and he opened our ears to a lot of older music, like Richie Valens, Chuck Berry, Willie Nelson, and Fats Domino.
generations our-family has-beens
Music has been in our family for generations.
