grateful long too-much
Too much of our lives corresponds to the 'lost-wallet' theory of life. You lose something, spend a long time finding it, and then feel grateful to be back where you started.
needs golden treats
The need to treat ourselves as well as we treat others. It's women's version of the Golden Rule.
self hatred needs
Self-hatred leads to the need either to dominate or to be dominated.
country men bombs
A man can be called ruthless if he bombs a country to oblivion. A woman can be called ruthless if she puts you on hold.
sex taken barriers
So why is the sex barrier not taken as seriously as the racial one?
mean men waiting
Women fear endangering men's approval so much, we don't even wait for them to say no. Or else we protect them, even if it means saying no to ourselves.
kids men careers
For a man to say, "I have to leave work now because I need to do something with my kids," it's sometimes viewed as a career killer. He doesn't have the right drive. So when they depart from their gender roles, they face some of the same restrictions.
home long phrases
Battered women is a phrase that uncovered major, long-hidden violence. It helps us to face the fact that, statistically speaking, the most dangerous place for a woman is in her own home, not in the streets.
education needs self-education
We need to unlearn some of our respect for education, since it has undermined our respect for ourselves.
mother father pride
My father was the Jewish half of the family, yet it was my mother who taught me to have pride in that tradition.
men quality gains
Men tend to gain wholeness by acquiring the qualities that are wrongly called feminine.
god trying god-knows
God knows (She knows) that women try.
strong-women mean thinking
It doesn't matter what word we use, if it has the same content, it will be treated in the same way. There are other words - there's "womanist," there's "mujerista," there's "women's liberationist" - all mean the same thing and they get the same ridicule. I think we just need to choose what word we feel comfortable with that says women are full human beings, and whatever that word is, it will get a lot of opposition. But it will also attract a lot of support. But this is a revolution, not a public relations movement.
political use violence
No other form of violence is legitimate. It is never acceptable to use violence to solve a problem. Whether personal or political.
