One should choose a wife with the ears, rather than with the eyes

Life is an onion and one peels it crying
beggar grown pride rich
There is no pride like that of a beggar grown rich
face nose spoils
A big nose never spoils a pretty face
bestowed honest hurt man praise unjustly
An honest man is hurt by praise unjustly bestowed
fruit loaded people stones throw tree
It is only the tree loaded with fruit that the people throw stones at
battalions god side strongest
God is on the side of the strongest battalions
afar attention fear lie listened sure utmost
He who comes from afar may lie without fear of contradiction as he is sure to be listened to with the utmost attention
judge loses
He who is judge between two friends loses one of them
anxious death pull rope
He who is anxious for the death of another has a long rope to pull
fears suffers
He who fears to suffer, suffers from fear
laughed lost
That day is lost on which one has not laughed
