Not really. It wasn't that easy. I went about 0-for-23 sometime after that.
If somebody is hot, you reward him if the other guy is struggling a little bit. That's the nature of the game. As a manager, you have to take advantage of the guys when they are swinging the bat well.
If you have nothing to say then say it, ... It's no big deal. I can't get inside his head.
If you charge the mound, that's one or two games.
If you hit a ball well in this ballpark you can be rewarded. If you don't hit a dynamite ball in this ballpark -- in the big part of this ballpark -- you will not be rewarded. That's just the way this ballpark is. You take a chance when you get out to the bigger part of this ballpark. You take a chance.
He's taken a lot upon himself without being told. I really enjoy watching him now.
He's established himself to the point that you expect something good when he goes out there.
How did I handle it? If he hit me, I went to first base. If he didn't, I got up and was more determined that he wasn't going to get me out. And if I went to first base, there was a bull's-eye on the shortstop, there was a bull's-eye on the second baseman.
He's out there just throwing, he's not pitching. He thinks harder is better and it's not.
He's ready for opening day. Yep. No doubt about it.
I don't think I'm going to tell them they have to be careful or anything like that. They should know that. I still think we have to go out and play like we would play normally.
I don't know if he's making a case to play every day, ... Right now, we are short in the outfield. He is doing very well and doing the job for us. If we keep winning, he'll be out there. He will have a job for about three more weeks and then he'll have to do it again during Spring Training.
I don't know if it hurt his development, but it certainly didn't help.
I didn't think he was going after the hitters. He was walking himself into trouble. He was one base hit away from the game blowing in our faces. I don't like pitchers throwing balls. You can't defense ball four.
