There's a chance he might not go out there on a regular basis to play defense,
There's a lot of camaraderie on this ball club already. In spring training it's been a good clubhouse. Believing in themselves and playing with excitement, I think that all comes from winning. I think this team has that ability to do that, to come together as a team.
It might not last until we get to San Diego. But it certainly should show these guys what they're capable of doing if each individual would go up there and do what he's capable of doing, and think about it being a team effort.
It's the second day in a row in which he has come in a ballgame and has come head high -- up and in -- to a left-handed hitter,
It's not tough to do. The better players are moving around, and it's mind-boggling that some players haven't done it.
It's more of a reaction. We need to do something here to get this club going. Are these two moves going to do it? I don't know. But we had to do something. I think it makes us a little better ball club.
It just goes to show you he's focused as far as his offense is concerned. The plays in the outfield, I tried to warn anybody who would listen, it's going to be a work in progress. He got a little lesson today, and if he learns from these things, that's what we want. We don't want him to make the same kind of mistakes two or three times.
It's already out there now. It's just like it happened last year, one guy starts to complain about it, the next guy picks it up a few games later when they hit a ball pretty decent. Then it starts to spread. To say management doesn't care about winning, that's way off base.
It made it a more happy atmosphere in the dugout.
It makes it very difficult because we're not real deep in the first place. It's not easy to lose front-line people. We can't afford it.
This is what we thought we could get out of him early in the year, ... What a weapon he would have been.
This is what we have to do to compete. Hopefully, now we can put it together.
They're a talented enough team to play in the playoffs. They look like they're at the top of their game right now.
They're giving us a chance. You know the old saying, don't let a guy hang around. If you have a chance to knock him out, knock him out. They've had a chance to knock us out.
