The victims of Katrina have lost everything, and now President Bush says it is OK for them to lose their fair wages, too.
Rather than selecting a nominee for the good of the nation and the court, President Bush has picked a nominee whom he hopes will stop the massive hemorrhaging of support on his right wing.
We need more than photo-ops and spin control to win this war. We need an effective plan to achieve our goals in Iraq and protect our troops. The president once again offered neither. He needs to realize what most Americans now understand -- that staying the course is not an option.

I applaud the fact that the president has reached out to the members of Judiciary Committee. And I applaud. the fact that he has been meeting with members of the Judiciary Committee. He's been seeking out Republicans as well as Democrats.
As Justice Sandra Day O'Connor stated, even a state of war is not a blank check for a president to do whatever he wants.

Today, President Bush is faced with a decision that affects each and every American and has the potential to impact every facet of constitutional law and the freedoms this country was founded upon.
The Republican proposals of finding of facts are really not the findings of fact, they are findings of fiction, ... It's a desperate attempt to further embarrass the president of the United States and it's an attempt to save their own political position.
This apparently is now a whitewash. The president has to come clean on this issue.
President Bush should provide the information ... rather than hiding behind a privilege that doesn't exist and encouraging Roberts to not answer questions, ... The American people deserve to know who John Roberts is and where he stands on the vital issues before the country.
President Bush must do more than give speeches, ... He must demonstrate leadership by saying no to his right-wing allies who want to close our borders and yes to the business community, labor unions and Hispanic Americans who want realistic and comprehensive immigration reform.
Before the Senate acts on John Roberts' new nomination, we should know even more about his record, and we should know whom the president intends to propose to nominate as a replacement for Sandra Day O'Connor.
If President Bush can make his own rules for domestic surveillance, Big Brother has run amok.
