Elwyn Brooks "E. B." White was an American writer. He was a contributor to The New Yorker magazine and a co-author of the English language style guide The Elements of Style, which is commonly known as "Strunk & White". He also wrote books for children, including Stuart Little, Charlotte's Web, and The Trumpet of the Swan. New York is to the nation what the white church spire is to the village - the visible symbol of aspiration and faith, the white plume saying the way is up!
We have 523 people who already live in that area. We'd like to make it a lot easier for them to invite their friends to church without having to drive the 15-16 miles to get here.
We changed the name because of the mission of our church to reach out to people who are un-churched, those who are far away from God. Sometimes denominational names can raise barriers for people. So many people here were not raised in the cultural South, and they have pretty stereotypical ideas about what Baptists are like.
If we had one person from every church and every business, we would have a good volunteer base.
I think what we're finding across the church is that people are tired of just writing the check for the mission. They really want to do it. We made a commitment to the city to put up 50 roofs over the next couple of months. We hope to perhaps complete 25 this week with the crews that we have.
The politicians have focused so much on the mega-churches in the county from a land use perspective until they have not looked at the contributions being made by the smaller churches. Our church has a partnership with Longfields Elementary where we provide textbooks, school supplies and even shoes for the children.
The mind travels faster than the pen; consequently, writing becomes a question of learning to make occasional wing shots, bringing down the bird of thought as it flashes by. A writer is a gunner, sometimes waiting in the blind for something to come in, sometimes roaming the countryside hoping to scare something up.
