Given their geography and situation, I thought that meeting with the leadership there would be a good thing,
from all over the world, from where they're not needed to a place they're needed.
I failed to recognize how important it was to elevate a matter of such gravity to the highest levels, including the president and the members of Congress,
I don't think we're going to just stumble over something.
I don't know why anyone would use the word inevitable, ... It clearly is not inevitable.
I’m not a doctor and I’m not the kind of a person who would be in a position to approve or disapprove. It seems to me, looking at it from this distance, is that the responsible people are the combatant commanders. And the Army is the executive agent for detainees.
But we don't go out and say something inaccurate about it. You lose so much more if, in fact, people cannot believe what you're saying.
I wish we could say ... that this is a time for peaceful remembrance, that we were gathering today to commemorate a danger that had long since past, ... ... But we cannot. The enemy, though seriously weakened and continuously under pressure, continues to plot attacks and the danger they pose to the free world is real and present.
I would guess there will be an end, ... Can I tell you for sure? No. ... This isn't World War I or World War II, that starts and then ends. Take Afghanistan. We've moved from major military activities to a point where at the present time, the vast majority of the country is in a stabilization security mode.
I would characterize it as 'much ado about nothing,'
I would characterize it as an isolated problem.
If these are released to the public, obviously it's going to make matters worse, ... I mean, I looked at them last night, and they're hard to believe.
I have every confidence that they (Iraqis) will end up voting on a new constitution on October the 15th when they had originally planned to do so,
Obviously, the United States does not have a responsibility when a sovereign country engages in something that they disapprove of,
