I'm responsible for starting a whole new school of pretension.
I was born in London 1947, after the war. A real wartime baby. I went to school in Brixton, and then I moved up to Yorkshire, which is in the north of England. I lived on the farms up there.
I haven't changed my views much since I was about 12, really, I've just got a 12-year-old mentality. When I was in school I had a brother who was into Kerouac and he gave me On The Road to read when I was 12 years old. That's still been a big influence.
I went to a middle-class school, but my background is working class. I got the best of both worlds, I saw both classes, so I have a pretty fair idea of how people live and why they do it.
I'm rather kind of old school, thinking that when an artist does his work it's no longer his.
What is very enlightening for me right now is that I sense that I'm arriving at a place of peace with my writing that I've never experienced before.
I've started doing book reviews for Barnes & Noble! They saw that I did a lot of book reviews on the site, and they figured that it might not be a bad thing if they got me to do some for them as well. I gave them five categories I'd be interested in reviewing, from art to fiction to music.
...And these children that you spit on as they try to change their worlds, they are immune to your consultations, they're quite aware of what they're going through...
I wanted to create an environment where not just my fans but all music lovers could be a part of the same community.

I read the news today, oh boy.
He's a friendly and caring guy whom I really respect for his knowledge of touring. Not to mention my favorite brand of coffee is consistently backstage every night.
I'm always amazed that peole take what I say seriously. I don't even take what I 'am' seriously.
When Brian and I came back together this time, we found that we'd gone through very similar psychological states during the course of the '80s.
