There?s still time. If (the Astros) win 12 straight games (to close the season), then they damn sure deserve it.
If we win tonight, that's big, ... Tonight's big and tomorrow's big. That will keep fan interest up. They want to see if we can win or are we going to disappoint them. It's up to us to show them. You've got to win to get the fans.
We just stunk up the joint. We definitely can put this one behind us.
Ryan Howard is legit. And he's more than just a power hitter, too. He's capable of hitting for a high average, he's capable of hitting the ball to all fields ... he's done everything we wanted him to do, everything we asked him to do.
That was long. They got ahead early and took it to us. We stunk up the joint.
I think people would always look back and see those six games,
I think people would always look at those six games (against the Astros), ... I think those would always be there in people?s minds.
I think his velocity was down. I think we kind of figured him out.
I stopped watching that one on the scoreboard. I figured it was over.
You know what? We just stunk up the joint. We definitely can put this one behind us.
I wish we could fill our ballpark every night. The players would like that, too. But that's just how it is. We've got to keep going. They'll come if we win.
Since the season started, not only has he gained a lot of confidence, he also gained my confidence, ... He's come a long way. He's done a tremendous job for us. I have a lot of confidence in him. At the first of the year, I hadn't seen him a lot, and I didn't know a whole lot about him. But he's definitely gained my confidence in him. He's pitched very good. He's had a hell of a year for us. He's gone a long ways.
When (right-hander) Lidge is on the mound, throwing 90 miles-per-hour sliders, he eats righties up, ... We needed a base hit there. We didn't need a home run. Chavez puts the ball in play. The more I thought about it, more I realized I couldn't have done much different to get Howard up on the righty (in the seventh).
We're getting good balls to hit. And we're not missing them.
