asked commenting discuss future handle regarding season until wait
I'm not commenting on anything regarding my future. I've asked that we wait until after the season to discuss all that, and the way we're going to handle it.
ball camp continued great guys last mix playing push ready season themselves thinking tony until winter
I'm not thinking about that right now, but he's playing in winter ball right now and Tony Pena told us he's doing well down there. We didn't think Cano would be ready until 2006, but he had a great winter ball season last year, showed up at camp and continued it. Some guys push themselves in the mix quicker.
beauty bursts everybody great places seasons step team together trying unexpected
You find a team and come together as a team in a lot of different ways. You need everybody to step up, and that's going to have to come from places you didn't expect. That's the beauty of trying to put together great seasons where you have those unexpected bursts of output.
guys healthy high hopefully levels lose obviously period produce season stay unique whenever
Obviously it's something that's unique and difficult. We'll lose some guys for a period of time. Hopefully they produce at high levels for those clubs, stay healthy and get back to us whenever their WBC season is over.
acting easy level people playing records rest schedule season spent teams
People keep acting like we have some kind of easy schedule the rest of the way because of the records of the teams we're facing, ... Well, don't be so sure. How much of this season have we spent playing to the level of the opposition?
change inevitable
I know we're better than what we showed, ... Change is ahead. It's inevitable in this game.
ahead asked guys knew option page question rather stay year
I knew (the option year of his contract) would be the first question you guys asked him. So I wanted to stay ahead of it and get on the same page with him, rather than play catch-up.
bigger enjoy everybody excited forward future great people work
Everybody is going to be a little nostalgic, not just the fans, but the people who work in this building. But then we're also excited about what the future brings. So it's a great balance. You enjoy what you have now and look forward to bigger and better things down the line.
boss heart soft spot
The Boss has always had a soft spot in his heart for Bernie Williams.
great stuff thankfully throw
It was great to see him come out and throw with the stuff he had today. Obviously, when he's right, he's very, very difficult, so thankfully he was right on today.
bunch came close guys knew meet talented team win work
It was just like, we came so close but we didn't do it -- but we did. I knew that we had the team that could go out and win a meet like this. We have a bunch of talented guys who work real hard.
along came name pat prepared press stand unless year
They've had a full-court press on me for Contreras all year long, and when they called this morning, his name came up again. We were prepared to go with what we have. We were prepared to stand pat unless something came along that really made sense.
time waited year
There's time pressure. Nov. 15 is the date, ... Let's just get it done. We've had all year to try to get it done. We've waited for the season. Now it's time to try to get it done or not get it done. Nov. 15 is the day.
conversation good letting
Nothing official. Just a good conversation letting him know where we're at.
