ball camp continued great guys last mix playing push ready season themselves thinking tony until winter
I'm not thinking about that right now, but he's playing in winter ball right now and Tony Pena told us he's doing well down there. We didn't think Cano would be ready until 2006, but he had a great winter ball season last year, showed up at camp and continued it. Some guys push themselves in the mix quicker.
based case continue conversation higher last level might obviously pull treatment
Based on what my conversation was last night, right now, he can pinch-run and might be able to hit. If that's the case and he can get the treatment that he needs, then we'll continue it out there. But obviously if it's of a level higher than that, we'll pull him.
behind continue directly gary hope hopefully rest stay time
My hope is that Gary and I will continue having discussions directly with each other, and the rest of it can stay out of the press. Hopefully this is all behind us and we can go forward. There will be a time and a place for the option.
continue feels physical ready
There was nothing from the (MRI) that was a problem. He'll continue his physical therapy. When he feels ready to go, he'll go.
best continue felt inside intent relationship resolve
There is not one person inside this organization that didn't want to continue this relationship with Bernie Williams. We felt that, if he was willing, it was our intent to resolve it. I think it's best for everybody.
baseball continue feels program says soon therapy wants
He doesn't need to see him. He wants him to continue the therapy program he has been doing, and says as soon as he feels up to it he can get up on the mound.
basically boss continue everybody good interested job move nice provides staying support system talked time tremendous valuable
Mel told me that he'd always be interested in staying around. I talked to the Boss about it. He thought it was a good idea. Mel thought it was a good idea. Everybody basically felt: Let's continue the relationship. Mel did a tremendous job here for a long time and provides a lot of valuable insight. So it's nice to have him as part of the support system as we move forward.
change inevitable
I know we're better than what we showed, ... Change is ahead. It's inevitable in this game.
ahead asked guys knew option page question rather stay year
I knew (the option year of his contract) would be the first question you guys asked him. So I wanted to stay ahead of it and get on the same page with him, rather than play catch-up.
bigger enjoy everybody excited forward future great people work
Everybody is going to be a little nostalgic, not just the fans, but the people who work in this building. But then we're also excited about what the future brings. So it's a great balance. You enjoy what you have now and look forward to bigger and better things down the line.
boss heart soft spot
The Boss has always had a soft spot in his heart for Bernie Williams.
great stuff thankfully throw
It was great to see him come out and throw with the stuff he had today. Obviously, when he's right, he's very, very difficult, so thankfully he was right on today.
bunch came close guys knew meet talented team win work
It was just like, we came so close but we didn't do it -- but we did. I knew that we had the team that could go out and win a meet like this. We have a bunch of talented guys who work real hard.
along came name pat prepared press stand unless year
They've had a full-court press on me for Contreras all year long, and when they called this morning, his name came up again. We were prepared to go with what we have. We were prepared to stand pat unless something came along that really made sense.
