We aggressively tried to pursue an athlete that we thought would dramatically impact our team, and we did it in constant concert and connection with the league and the management council. We proceeded in the proper way we were told to proceed, and now we find out that the circumstances are different. That's regrettable, but we'll move on.

Mike analyzes everything. He works at his trade. He came into it new, and spent countless hours learning the craft, talking with people around the league to find out what it is he needs to do, and given that opportunity, how he would approach being a head coach. He's very detailed in his preparation. Mike's a very deep thinker and very passionate about the game, and those are two pretty good qualities to become a head coach.

Not good enough. You've got to make plays if you're going to keep up with an outstanding team like that. They (Indianapolis) give up a lot of yards, they give up a lot of 10-play drives, but they're one of the best teams in the league about keeping you out of the end zone once you get down there. The rationale is that the individuals involved feel bad today and are punishing themselves. Believe me, when the league fines them, it will be substantial, ... If I thought an internal sanction, a monetary sanction against them, would suffice or help, I'd do it in a New York second. My experience is it does not. If they are not remorseful on their own -- regardless of whether the league fines them a penny, or whether they fine them hundreds of thousands of dollars -- if they don't internalize the culpability, then we're no better than we were yesterday.
