After trying the pelvic floor exercises and other interventions, I simply wasn't gaining ground. My obstetrician referred me to Dr. Miller, who performs a surgery called tension-free vaginal tape (TVT). I underwent the procedure over a year ago and have been symptom-free ever since.

As an athlete, you spend so much of your time and energy getting to the Games, you don't think beyond those two weeks. The one thing an athlete needs is recovery time. active block child half lifestyle months realizing return run shorts slow trying worry
When I went on my first run about two months after having my first child in 1998, I didn't get more than half a block before realizing that my shorts were soaked. I was very upset. As an athlete, I was used to being active and not having anything slow me down. Now I had to worry about leaking, while trying to return to the active lifestyle I was used to.
expecting good medal
I wasn't really expecting me to win the gold in this race. To get another medal for myself and for the U.S. was a pretty good thing to happen, I'd say.
almost final good olympics sad
This Olympics is almost a little sad. It is my final Olympics. There are a lot of good memories.

My legs tightened up pretty much, and it was a hard last corner for me.
experience family learned life move next positive stay staying
What I've learned from my own journey, and from my family's experience with cancer, is how important it is to stay positive and move forward. Not every day is going to be perfect; that's life. But staying positive is going to get you to the next day.
track long competition
Even though I enjoy that head-to-head competition part, one of the things that drove me to long track was if I won or if I lost I want to know it's all on my shoulders and it didn't have anything to do with anybody else.
memories done knows
It's sad to know I'm done. But looking back, I've got a lot of great memories.
