We kind of weathered the storm. We felt like at halftime we had kind of taken their best shot.

There's a fine line between going in there and being emotional and allowing it to have an adverse effect, which I think happened to us last week. We settled down more in the second half of that game, but we lost our composure at times. I don't want us to lose our emotion, but we can't lose our composure. There's a fine line and at times we kind of crossed that, but we have to play with that same emotion, that same level of desperation or else we are not going to move on.

People can look at our run-to-pass ratio, ... but I will say this: Watch us in the first half (this season) because we're still a balanced football team. But when we get a lead, that element is taken out of the hands of the quarterback and we will run the ball. So, we just shut it down. Our defense just, they stepped up when they had to, they really did. I thought the biggest thing was the first half. I don't know if we got a first down until the second quarter because we could not get anything going offensively. So, when we come out of the first half to be up 7-3, that was a good thing.

It's a legitimate question, ... As the second half unfolded, unfortunately we did not have Jerome in the game. I wish I would have gotten him in. He was not in the game in the last series of overtime because he had not been in the game in the second half. That's a decision that I am responsible for.

He said before we went out there that I'm going to give it a shot, but if I feel like I am hurting this team I am going to take myself out and I want you to know that. In hindsight, obviously you wouldn't want to do that in a game like this. Against this caliber of a football team, you cannot ruin opportunities like that. He understands that. I just told him to let it go, learn from it, and let's move on. Don't dwell on it.

In Denver, they had a chance to win. I think this team could very easily be 4-0, ... I think that says a lot about the fact that they've really picked up where they left off a year ago. I don't feel like we're playing like we did a year ago, but I think San Diego is.

In my 14 years, I don't think we've ever had so many guys get votes. As I told the team, it was very reflective of what they thought of their teammates and the fact that they really do consider themselves a team. That is pretty special to get that many guys with two or more votes.

In any big game, a lot of it comes down to an ability to weather storms, to be able to respond to situations. We did a good job down there but we didn't do a very good job up here. It comes down to making plays and trying to be opportunistic and deal with circumstances that happen within the course of a game. With these two teams it's going to come down to execution.

In an ideal world, yes. I don't know how it's always going to unfold. It was nice to be able to have a fresh Jerome Bettis in the fourth quarter (Monday) night. That was a luxury. That's what you'd like to have in an ideal world. When we hand the ball to him, you know there was not going to be a negative play.
