birth certain death lament
Because, death is certain for the one who is born, and birth is certain for the one who dies. Therefore, you should not lament over the inevitable.
attains fixed keeping mind nirvana peace subdued supreme whose yogi
By always keeping the mind fixed on the Self, the yogi whose mind is subdued attains peace of the Supreme nirvana by uniting with Me.
devotion known truly understand
By devotion one truly understand what and who I am in essence. Having known Me in essence, one immediately merges into Me.
attains divine practice supreme
By contemplating on Me with an unwavering mind, disciplined by the practice of meditation, one attains the Supreme divine spirit, O Arjuna.
again dear hear secret shall supreme
Hear again My supreme word, the most secret of all. You are very dear to Me, therefore, I shall tell this for your benefit.
anger fear forever free freedom governing intent mind sage
Governing sense, mind and intellect, intent on liberation, free from desire, fear and anger, the sage is forever free.
death disgrace worse
For one that has been esteemed, disgrace Is worse than death
desire neither nor pleasure victory
I desire neither victory nor pleasure nor kingdom, O Krishna. What is the use of the kingdom, or enjoyment, or even life, O Krishna?
eternal ignorant known
I am not known by all. Therefore, the ignorant one does not know Me as the unborn and eternal Brahman.
compel due ego nature resolve shall yours
If due to ego you think: I shall not fight; this resolve of yours is vain. Your own nature will compel you.
devotion known seen
However, through single-minded devotion alone, I can be seen in this form, can be known in essence, and also can be reached, O Arjuna.
consider devoted faith lovingly supreme
I consider one to be the most devoted of all the yogis who lovingly contemplates on Me with supreme faith.
front insulted whatever
In whatever way I may have insulted You in jokes; while playing, reposing in bed, sitting, or at meals; when alone, or in front of others; O Krishna, I implore You for forgiveness.
birth dies grieve takes
If you think that this (body) takes birth and dies perpetually, even then, O Arjuna, you should not grieve like this.
