When the BC job came open I was interested. I knew the program and its history of coaches from both as a player and a coach. I thought I could leave my mark here and I always felt BC could be more consistent in having its coach. BC was going through a cleansing period and I think I needed one, too.

I was trying to figure out what the heck I was doing. I wanted to get in there and run and obviously play some defense. We've got a young team but that's not an excuse. We've got a lot of young players that just haven't grasped it yet but we'll get there.

He's got great hands. He's a tough young man who has a tremendous amount of determination. I mean, his determination is really what makes him the player he is. He's obviously got good qualities - he's got good touch around the basket - but it's his work ethic that allows him to be the quality player he is. I'm just saying I don't think there are many players that play with that type of intensity, particularly freshmen.

Our veteran (Smith) and our youngster (Rice) made the big plays. We want Smith to get as many touches down the stretch as possible because our other players will play off him. He's a thoroughbred and battle-tested, and he usually produces in the clutch.
