Virginia enjoys an equal-to status with the federal government when it comes to meat inspection. Right now, Virginia runs the meat-inspection program because of that agreement. But if we were to allow the sale of products that weren't inspected or slaughtered in an approved facility, we would be less than equal in status with the federal government, so the federal government would take over our inspection program, and the inspectors on that level would be much more stringent.

I think primarily we've left our doors unlocked because it never occurred to us, generally, that this would happen. We live a rather casual life out here -- rather too casual.

One of my favorite places that we randomly drove to was New York, from Illinois. The drive was not as bad as we thought it would be, approximately 15 hours, and my friends and I just played music to sing along to throughout the drive.
