There's probably 15 or 16 offensive categories, if you want to be a baseball junkie. I may have led in 10 or 12 of them. I think being a balanced player and saving a lot of runs on the defensive side was a major factor. Ortiz is an unbelievable offensive player.
We played so well down the stretch, ... To end in this fashion, it's disappointing. I played great baseball this year, and I played like a dog the last five games.
That was a tougher play, mine was an easy play, ... I thought it was actually a base hit.
The 3-2 slider, you really tip your cap. I couldn't believe it was a 3-2 slider. That situation - bases loaded, the runners going - they deserve it.
Shock. It was shock. You almost feel you have three or four innings to play, but you go home. . . . We feel baseball is best in the U.S. and it's difficult not to carry that out.
It was one of the saddest days in baseball for me because what better example for anybody who strives to be a great player and a great person.
It just doesn't get any better this. This is the best time of my life, the most fun time in my baseball career. I don't remember a race like this since I've been around.
When your on-base percentage is over .420 and you have a high strikeout total, ... that's better than hitting 7 home runs and driving in 40 runs. To me, the name of the game is getting on base and scoring runs.
You always dream about being on a baseball card. It's kind of funny when you finally see it.
It is hard to ignore that is reality. But, at the same time, it still comes down to sound baseball decisions, farm systems and then execution on the field by the players. There are a lot of components to that (other) than just saying it is the highest salary.
Why do people sing Take Me Out to The Ballgame when they're already there?
I've never felt overmatched on the baseball field. I've always been in a very strong, dominant position. And I felt that if I did my work as I've done since I was, you know, a rookie back in Seattle, I didn't have a problem competing at any level. So, no.
With what has occurred in my life, the baseball field is where I feel most comfortable. That's what I feel I was born to do and it's what I do best.
I truly believe my job starts the minute I leave the baseball field. Going out and catching ground balls and hitting, that's a job, and that's what I've wanted to do ever since I was a kid. But when you think about leaving that field, that's when the job and the demands really start. In New York, Seattle, every city. The community, the media, business stuff. You have to stay on a narrow path.
