I saw him pitch lights out many times against the Yankees. We have to play this stuff out. I'm just being really positive about him because I know he can do certain things. But until he gets into this new environment playing for us, you don't know that.

He's a guy, overall, that gives us more assets in that spot. Miguel played well for us early in the year, and he can always go out there and grind and claw and do certain things. But he did come here to be backup guy. If Kaz can finish up strong, the way he's swinging right now, it would be nice for us.

His hands have been good. I like his approach, I like that he's willing to take a walk. He has a certain poise at the plate with some bat speed at the end of his swing.

We think we can help him in some cases. He's always had a great arm. Mechanically, there's always something a pitching coach can pick up to tweak a little bit. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

This was the perfect time to do it. I always like to let the guys know where I'm coming from. We talked hitting, we talked defense. It's something I don't think we do enough of in baseball.
