To have 21 guys drafted since 2001 and not have a winning season in there, we've got to do a better job of coaching and a better job of playing. Notice I said coaching first. I'll put the heat on our coaching staff. A big part of coaching is discipline. A big part of coaching is getting them to buy into what you're doing. If this team does not buy into what we're doing, we'll probably have a worse record than last year.

That position, that's a challenge here at Stanford, to come up with legitimate runners that can make people miss, run people over and break long runs. We decided to give him a look and he did a representative job. I don't think you can say he's the only back who's going to play or even that he'll carry the ball most. He's earned the starting job because of his work ethic and responsiveness on the practice field.

He's got to do a better job of protecting himself so he doesn't take any more shots. I was watching to make sure he got up. Fortunately, he got up and did the job.

I'm going to miss Ted because I think we have a lot of common belief about how to get the job done. I'm sad in some ways because we need that guy in our corner, but I'm extremely happy for him because I know what a great place Pacific is, and I know that he wanted to do it. I'm a Ted Leland fan. I can put my job second and my friendship first.

We had to replace four coaches from last year's staff and I'm very pleased with the personnel we were able to bring in. Jeff is obviously a talented, young coach who will play a key role on our staff.

That was part of the package. The (June) draft is always a strong possibility because of his considerable baseball talents but we hope a scholarship to Stanford is a strong deterrent.

I think he's probably 80 percent better than he was last spring and 30 percent better than last fall. But he's still got some finishing touches he's got to put on his game. But that's why we practice.

When we lost Trent it looked like the wheels fell off offensively, ... I was disappointed in the blocking up front and the protection was not good. T.C. has to play better as well.

We had a couple of runs for him. It's something we had to do.

The defense played well enough for us to win the game, ... That was a very poor performance on offense and the kicking game stunk it up. There are a lot of things we have to tighten up. I don't know how many changes we can actually make.
bad good stuff taste
For all the stuff we have to correct, and to get healthy, I think the bye is a good thing. For the bad taste in our mouth, for all the competitors who are on our team, it's hard. It's going to be a long wait.
