college makeup freedom-of-expression
The clothing, the makeup, the freedom of expression in [the models'] bodies. It was Linda and Christy and Naomi at the time. So I modeled before college.
children makeup style
I wanted Bow's hair and makeup and clothing to look like a woman who has four children, a career, and a full life. For example, she won't wear eyeshadow unless she's going out. Because it takes a lot of time to put eyeshadow on. She's a woman who has style, but it's all about functionality - she grabs stuff from her closet.
real makeup somewhere-else
My bathroom is filled with hair and makeup stuff and I play with it all the time. What the real lesson is, is that you can own your own sense of beauty. It doesn't have to be something you get from somewhere else.
acting both certainly created creative deeply exciting experience family full hand input love playing producing rewarding shaping
The experience of both acting and producing has been wonderful. It certainly has created a full plate. But it is very exciting and rewarding to have creative input on the show. 'Reed' is about love and family and for me, playing a hand in shaping it has been deeply gratifying.
I used to think 40 was old. Now I think, 'Hey, 40's hot!'
crave days good steak
I listen to my body. Some days all I want is a good steak and others, I crave veggies and quinoa.
ball obsessed ruin
I loved being a redhead! I always wanted to try it. I was obsessed with Lucille Ball growing up. I really wanted to try it but I always thought that doing it would ruin my hair.
care fan freckles fresh general natural skin wear
It is important to me to take care of my skin. In general I don't like to wear foundation; I'm not a fan of the look. I like my skin fresh and natural enough so my freckles show through.
I am a connoisseur of products. I check out everything, I try everything.
empowered stories
I'm always touched by people's different stories of who they are and why they made the choices that they made. I feel so empowered by the story behind the person.
children
I don't know that the stereotypical idea of what it is to be a child of somebody hugely famous necessarily comes into play in my life.
husband eye reflection
This woman [Bow] was not simply a reflection of who her husband was. She was her own whole self. And even if we weren't exploring life through her eyes, when we did see her it was clear that she had a full life.
fun
Somehow [Kenya Bariss] has figured out how to explore these very weighty, sticky, sharp topics, and still be funny and not make fun of the topic.
character thinking black
I felt like it was a courageous show [Black-ish] from the beginning. We are a black family - we're not a family that happens to be black. But the show is not even about us being black. The show is about us being a family. That is groundbreaking - on TV, the black characters either happen to be black or they're the "black character," where everything they say is about being black. I think that's the genius.
