Nicknamed the "Motor City Cobra" and more famously "The Hitman", Hearns' tall and slender build allowed him to move up over fifty pounds in his career and become the first boxer in history to win world titles in four weight divisions: welterweight, light middleweight, middleweight, and light heavyweight. By later winning a super middleweight title, he also became the first to win world titles in five weight divisions...

I started slow, ... I thought, 'This can't be happening to me.' I was very alert, very aware, but around the fourth round, some of the rust started coming off and I juiced it up.
Because we ought to get back in the ring for one more time. The people would love it. It would be a hot item today.
Ray Leonard was more of a favorite than Thomas Hearns that night.
I'm going to fight again because this wasn't a fight.
That was the fight. I knew that I had done something that no man had been able to do to a champion.
Some people are going to be happy with my decision, some people aren't, ... But I must live my life.
But I feel age is only a number. And if you train hard, you stay in tip-top shape - which I've always done - you can do whatever your will is. I want to live my life to the fullest, and I'm in God's hands. I know God watches out for me. He has this far.
If Tyson will come down to 200 and train the way he did for Buster Douglas, I'd fight him in a minute. Everybody wants a piece of him now.
I knew that I had done something that no man had been able to do to a champion.
In boxing, everybody has their favorites.
Some people are going to be happy with my decision, some people aren't... But I must live my life.
I prayed, thanking God, for making it all possible for me, because I knew where I came from.
The loss just made me hungry; it made me want to go out and win another title.
