anybody knew supposed thinking
Anybody that knew Kirby or has been around him, we're all thinking about him. I knew, though, what he'd want us to do. Go out and do what you're supposed to do here. He'd want us to go out and play the game.
added almost best club example fit
The best example of that is when we added Shannon Stewart. He fit right in. Almost every year, this club has turnover. It's a way of life.
against cause certainly dugout good hope
I hope we get lucky, because we're certainly a good fit. He's going to be over in that dugout and the opposing manager's going to know it and he could cause some havoc. Just like he did against us.
bit gone odd regardless resilient seem
It's been interesting. It's been a little bit of an odd year. Regardless of what we have gone through, we seem to be resilient enough to win. And that's what's happened.
apparent bit hit last mark win year
It was apparent last year that if we would have hit a little bit more and executed a little bit better, our win mark would have been in the 90s.
building bunch days everybody five four game games gone guys haven hit home homer pitching profess share since stereotype stress teams tremendous won worry youngest
First off, we're always young. We're one of the youngest teams in the game every year. Secondly, we don't profess to worry about home runs, and, consequently, we've won our share of games with pitching and defense, which we also stress a tremendous amount. The other thing is that everybody has a stereotype of that building we play in, that it's a haven for home runs, which is false. It isn't a homer dome. Those days are gone ? since about '87 when we had four or five guys that did hit a bunch of them.
club million payroll whether
Every club has issues. Whether you have a $30 million payroll or $130 million, you've got issues,
area team
There's nothing we can do about it. Every team is in the same boat. If there's one area we have depth, it's pitching.
opportunity win
They are all here for a reason, because there is every opportunity here for a left-hander to win a job.
anyone gap great job pictures played players rod tony
Anyone who is around our organization, we have pictures up of (Puckett) and Rod Carew and Harmon Killebrew and Tony Oliva. We've done a great job of bridging the gap between when Kirby played and the players now.
along catalyst cycling people served showing supportive
All along the way in my cycling career, many people have been supportive in showing me the right direction. That has served as a catalyst for me to do the same thing for others.
becomes starting team
You're starting to see this team formulate. If nothing becomes available, what you see is what you're going to get.
bit humbling
It was a little bit of a humbling year. We got what we deserved. We didn't play well as a team.
along building bullpen calls closer emerge guy juan quality reliable setup
Building a bullpen calls for going from the back forward. Having an established closer like Nathan along with a reliable setup guy in Juan Rincon is a key. Then we had Jesse Crain emerge as a quality sixth- and seventh-inning reliever.
