In 1980, with one leg having been amputated, he embarked on a cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. I was tired of stepping over other people and other people stepping over us, ... And tired of moving.
After meeting so many people around town that loved that station, the music and what it offered, I felt that St. Louis was craving a new smooth-jazz listening experience. I set out to create just that.
Our privacy is starting to be invaded and we can't get anything done. I'm happy with the fundraising but upset we don't have time to talk and meet with people.
Some people can’t figure out what I’m doing. It’s not a walk-hop, it’s not a trot, it’s running, or as close as I can get to running, and it’s harder than doing it on two legs. It makes me mad when people call this a walk. If I was walking it wouldn’t be anything.
It almost hurts me to walk down a road and have people grab my hand and ask for my autograph and not sit and talk. When I'm finished I'm not going to be on the front page, but I'm going to be just as happy without the publicity.
Even though I'm not running anymore, we still have to try to find a cure for cancer. Other people should go ahead and try to do their own thing now.
It’s one thing to run across Canada, but now, people are really going to know what cancer is.
Maybe that’s why I’ve made it as far as I have – 2,521 miles. If I ran to a doctor every time I got a little cyst or abrasion I’d still be in Nova Scotia. Or else I’d never have started. I’ve seen people in so much pain. The little bit of pain I’m going through is nothing. They can’t shut it off, and I can’t shut down every time I feel a little sore.
I do what I do for the people who believe in me, not for the jerks who don't.
How many people ever get a chance to do something that they really believe in?
I just wish people would realize that anything's possible if you try; dreams are made possible if you try.
I'd like to have it taken care of by then.
Ms. Garcia is stretching the truth for her own personal gain,
We're there to show our sympathy, ... We're there to show our support and that we care. Whatever gift you give is going to be appreciated.
