war two way
When war comes, two things happen - profits go way, way up and all perishables go way, way down. There becomes a market for them.
thinking decision way
I think producers are more interested in backing concepts than directors and writers. I don't think that's the right way of making a decision about whether you're going to back a film or not.
technology way telling-stories
My filmmaking really began with technology. It began through technology, not through telling stories, because my 8mm movie camera was the way into whatever I decided to do.
choices way cameras
I had no choice. It was just something that happened. I was always looking for ways to act out, and I got a camera and it acted out for me.
commitment bags way
It starts with the writer-it's a familiar dictum, but somehow it keeps getting forgotten along the way. No film-maker, irrespective of his electronic bag of tricks, can ever afford to forget his commitment to the written word.
stories way receiving
[The way Stanley Kubrick] tells a story is antithetical to the way we are accustomed to receiving stories.
running world way
If the world ran the way a crew runs a set, we'd have a better, more progressive world.
thinking way rambo
I love Rambo but I think it's potentially a very dangerous movie. It changes history in a frightening way.

answers audience burden complex easy either figure land last left love people pundits puts refuses somewhere targeted themselves
It would make people more comfortable if I made a film that said all targeted assassination is bad, or good, but the movie doesn't take either of those positions. It refuses to. Many of those pundits on the Left and Right would love the film to land somewhere definite. It puts a real burden on the audience to figure out for themselves how they feel about these issues. There are no easy answers to the most complex story of the last 50 years.
trying
'E.T.' began with me trying to write a story about my parents' divorce.
directly open opportunity reach wider
This opportunity ... allows all of us to reach out directly to open a much wider door.
although demonize happened
We don't demonize our targets. They're individuals. They have families. Although what happened in Munich, I condemn.
animal expected found girls harvest leo party reap
I expected to see a party animal who was going to reap harvest with all the girls on the set. I found the opposite. Leo is a homebody.
