Most coaches will tell you it's very important to win that last one. That's all anyone talks about.
Certainly, Blake has improved. He has certainly learned what's going on, and he should play much, much better this year. I hope we have some coaches around here so our guys improve from one year to the next.
It's always important to play in the bowl game. All you have to do is look at the other six SEC teams that didn't make it and realize we're in the top half of the SEC. It's certainly fun for all the college kids and coaches to be playing in December, in January. A lot of them are not practicing and wish they were.
We're lousy coaches if we can't play better than the other night. I probably did too much media myself. We need to concentrate on playing.
There's a little bit of excitement and certainly I'm looking forward to it. But still, this game's about our players against their players. I know sometimes we coaches get too much in the spotlight of the game.
Coaches go out with a little bit of strut in their step instead of hanging their heads down if they get clobbered.
If our fans felt like booing, I would have said they had a good reason to. To me, you only boo if the guys are not playing with effort, (and if the) coaches don't look like they know what they were doing. We were all in that category. The fans will not hurt my feelings if we perform like that again and (they) boo.
I hope we change something. I hope we get them off the field and our third-down defense will be a lot better. I know our defensive coaches were disappointed. We've got to play extremely better defensively.
We just wanted to look around in the stadium and realize how fortunate we are to be able to coach and play in front of 80,000 people that love their team like we have here. Who knows if it does any good or not? We'll find out Saturday at 1 o'clock.
We just try to improve and improve and improve. We don't worry about how we look so much. We stayed healthy and that's always, I think, the number-one priority.
We weren't quite good enough. We didn't block well enough or tackle well enough and that was the difference in the ball game. A little block here, a little tackle there.
We got Pops a catch for the record book.
We're going to try to practice everybody the same amount, but mostly the younger guys. Guys that haven't played much, which is about the whole team.
It was there tonight. It was there to be had if we were real sharp and maybe played a little better offensively. It was a game where we had a chance, but we couldn't get it done.
