That's why after an election we'll ask the MPs elected by the people their opinion on controversial questions that were issues in this campaign.
Americans respect a prime minister who takes a strong position on issues of interest to Canada, but they're not going to respect a guy who insults them gratuitously.
I think Mr. Martin is making a mistake talking about issues no one wants to talks about ... and instead not telling people why they should vote for his party.
Why, when this prime minister claims that aboriginal issues are his top priority, does the Liberal premier of Ontario say he's 'missing in action' in this crisis?
The continued increase in many crime indicators and the fact that the overall crime rate has not seen a marked decrease while the Liberals have been in power is a clear indication that the Liberal approach to combating crime, as on so many other issues, has failed.
My own views on abortion, I'm not on either pole of that and neither of the interest groups on either end of this issue would probably be comfortable with my views.
I think the way to change it is to handle issues individually when it's essential to do so.
We'll support the government on issues if it's essential to the country but our primary responsibility is not to prop up the government, our responsibility is to provide an opposition and an alternative government for Parliament and for Canadians.
I'm sure he'll do us proud over there.

The biggest thing I want to do on foreign policy is to increase Canada's foreign policy capacities, whether they be in foreign aid, or military capacity or disaster assistance. We want Canada to be able to do more.
