In my situation there are often things I need to do for the team, so when I get the chance to relax it's all I want to do.
You never expect a situation like that so when it comes, you just have to have confidence in each other, and I think that's what was going through our minds. I think we were confident, and we knew we did a good job the last couple games. It was just a matter of doing it for a little bit longer.
Going through this is a lot of adversity -- let's be honest, there is a little bit of pressure because we haven't been winning -- and if we can get through this, we'll be better for it, ... It's not an ideal situation but now we realize it's tough to win and we have to be ready every night. We have to dig deep and play determined and play desperate.
For me to come into this situation, I feel pretty lucky. When you're drafted early, a lot of guys come into a situation that's rebuilding. That's not the case here.
I don't want to downplay it and say it's something that happens every day because it's not. But I've been in a lot of similar situations the last few years,
We've been there a lot this year. We've fallen behind and climbed our way back, but it seems like one mistake we make and sometimes it costs us.
When a goalie is off for that long, you expect he might be a little rusty. Early on, he was giving out a few more rebounds than normal. If we had jumped on a few on those, it might have been different. As the game wore on, he seemed to get more comfortable and he was pretty solid back there.
I've never looked at it as a burden and I don't think I ever will. It's exciting. It means that people are interested in hockey and that's important. That's the best part about it.
It would be nice to win it, but it's not on my mind a lot.
It would have been nice to get the third win in a row, but it's nice to at least get the point.
It would have been nice to get an empty net goal. We had a little scare when they came back in the second. But it was a good test for us, a test of character. It showed the confidence we have in each other now to come back.
It would have been easy to pack it in. Hopefully, we can learn from this, but at the same time we have to be proud with the way we played in the third period.
Every time we played them this year, it has been brought up. I'm not going to lie, it was something that was lingering. It was nice to finally close that up.
There was a lot of firsts: my first game, first goal, first penalty, ... Everything seemed to be a first thing for me, so everything kind of watched it that way. But things have died down a little bit. Not totally, but a lot more than what it was at the start of the season.
