What holds South Sydney back can be attributed to lack of funding, but it also is possibly attributed to too many cooks spoil the broth.
Living in LA would be like unrolling my swag in the office. I just don't think it would be healthy, mate.
Directing is like looking at the stars on a cloudless night. You get away from all light sources, and you look up, and you see 50 points of light. And a minute later 100 and another minute later 1,000 and then 10,000. And then this swirling gigantic carpet above you, and somehow it all seems to connect.
It was really nice to come down, see a good, solid win, ... It's the last time I get to see a game this year in Australia and it means that in the five weeks so far that they've had Cinderella Man (an advertising patch for Crowe's recent movie) on their jerseys, they've won four out of five.
A lady came up to me afterwards and said this is better than our last grand final win in 1971. And I would have to say that I agree.
My last words to members were 'let's vote yes, let's get into bed together, I hope you respect me in the morning'.
South Sydney is a very complicated and wonderful place. You have some of the most expensive bits of real estate in the country and a large percentage of government housing.
Anyway, I'm doing my rave and this spittle comes out of my mouth and it winds its way very delicately through the wire fence that separates us and lands clear and bright on Denzel's lip. And we're at the beginning of the scene and I've got to do the rest of the scene, and the camera isn't on him, it's on me - and I'm fully aware that I've just spat on Denzel Washington!
The people who don't have a good relationship with me from a good performance point of view are very few and far between.

I work between 'action' and 'cut'. My life doesn't carry on after 'cut' in terms of my relationship with the characters.
Who on Earth had the ... audacity to take out the best actor's poem? ... I'll make sure you never work in Hollywood.
Jim had to go on the dole, but he didn't wear the pain on his sleeve. He accepted it and kept trying to do the best he could for his family. The Great Depression is a character, and I think the villain in this piece is poverty. If there's a single moment in Braddock's life that I think makes him important in history, it's the fact that he went to the Social Security Commission and repaid the money he'd taken when he was on the dole. That shows you more about his character than anything in his boxing career.
