good maybe whatever
We just had a good approach. Maybe he said that out of frustration. He can think whatever he wants.
age attitude believed close extended fire good hard hate kid league rookie since team took worked
Sammy and I have been really close since 1986, when he was 16 years old. He didn't make the Rookie League team so I took him to extended spring. This kid ... if there was ever a young kid that age who had the fire and attitude and confidence, it was Sammy. He always worked hard and he always believed he was going to be a big-league player. That's why he was able to do the things he did in baseball. He's a good man, and I hate to see him retire.
adjustment doubt feeling mind seen wants
I've already seen him make this adjustment before, so there is no doubt in my mind he's going to get it back. Already, you can say he's feeling what he wants to feel out there.
coming credit delivery fire flaw giving good guys light mentally physically plan saw somebody whatever
Sometimes you think he would say something out of frustration, but I don't think he is. He can think whatever he wants. We had a plan, saw a flaw in his delivery and we went with it. Hopefully, this will light a fire under our guys for somebody not giving you credit for mentally and physically having a good plan and coming out on top.
ability enable full growing himself learning mark pitchers player reach
Mark has got a lot of ability. He's learning more about himself and more about the pitchers in the American League. He's still growing as a player and doing the things that will enable him to reach his full potential.
anybody approach cage great michael miss position student time video
I don't think anybody has a better two-strike approach than Michael Young. Great kid, great student of the game. He doesn't miss time in the cage or the video room. All that has enabled him to be in the position he's in today.
balls bat best carry half hopefully looks lower seen square swinging
Nix looks healthy. He's swinging the bat real good, this is the best I've seen him in a long time. Hopefully we can carry this through into the games. His lower half is a lot better and he's able to square up balls better.
faith main scared
I have a lot of faith. That's the main thing why I'm not scared at all.
caught confident early expecting soon
I feel confident that they caught this early and I'm expecting to be back as soon as I can.
change guy jump successful trying
It's nothing major. You don't jump into a guy and try to change his whole approach. We're just trying to get him back to the things that made him so successful in the past.
balls hits shows trusts
The balls he hits to right are on a line, too. He's not just slicing the ball out there. That just shows you how well he trusts his mechanics.
behind days few last leave lock prepared
It will be fine. They'll be good. They'll lock it in the last few days like they always do. I don't want to leave but it's part of it. I'm prepared mentally, I want to get it behind me and get back there with them.
approach ball balls foul good hand hook inside position rather reactions rod seeing speed staying takes thinking trusting
It's about staying inside the ball and that's what Rod has been doing. He's thinking a little more left-center rather than down the line. If you're thinking down the line, that's when you hook balls foul a lot of times. He's in a good position and seeing the ball well. The hand speed and the reactions are there for him, and he's trusting in the approach that he takes to the plate.
bat definitely health power question showing shown speed
The power is there, the only question was his health. But he's definitely showing the power and the bat speed that he's shown in the past.
