It's a tough summer for all airlines because of continuing bad weather across most of the country and the backup with the heavy traffic, with the traffic control system. But on top of that, they are having employee relation problems. There are two major contracts that are being negotiated and this is the way the employees are showing they're unhappy with the progress being made.

They came in about where expected, maybe a little better, and it's no surprise. That's not what counts. What counts is going forward. They verified what we thought, that the first quarter will have a significant loss. The rest of the year remains a little more hazy concerning what happens.

It is still a cyclical business, so management believes (it has) to keep some control over their costs. Other carriers have actually reduced some of their labor unit costs, and American has not been able to do that. That puts it at a cost disadvantage compared to some of its competitors.

When everybody's positive, that's the time to get out, isn't it? ... But I'm positive, too. This industry is hot, hot, hot, and the economy's going to get hotter. And even if it doesn't, people will still like to gamble.
