A lot of people gave up on our basketball team. But I knew we were playing well. We lost some games, but we just weren't shooting the ball well. We never used it as motivation. We just kept our confidence.

At sectional, nobody was giving us a shot. Our kids knew through the newspaper and Web sites that nobody was picking us to win the sectional. They have finally bought into the fact that defense wins championships.

They were loose kids. I knew our team was ready to play. These kids are really good kids. This is a great group of kids.

Even if it was just for a short time, I wanted those guys to have the opportunities to play with their brothers on the court at the same time. Even though it was maybe only 30 seconds, I wanted them to have that opportunity. Some people might say 'Why'd you do it?' but I really don't care. It's all about memories.

The thing that I am most proud about is the fact that this team has overcome such adversity and negativity. There we were, 10-6 and hearing all the negative talk and dealing with things we had dealt with all year, but these kids stayed together and now look at us, sectional champions.

I was driving, Bill (Green) was riding shotgun and the starters were dozing in the back for most of the trip. When we woke them just before getting to Marion for a celebratory pep rally, Jay said to Lyndon, 'What time are we going to meet tomorrow to play?' They had just won, and they already were talking about getting back on the court. They never rested.

Our kids held their composure. That's what senior leadership is all about. Our seniors stepped up.

What I'm proud of, when Ryan went out of the game with four minutes to go with a hip bruise, the other guys took over. I'm really proud of that.
